Our Steward: Mike Kane has been our steward and volunteer coordinator for 909 since our latest agreement with the DEC was signed in 2025. Mike is one of the three sawyers Fats in the Cats currently has and works to coordinate volunteers who contributed over 300 hours to keeping trails open in 2026.

Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area (909)

The Taconic Hereford Multiple Use Area, better known as 909,  was once home to a Hudson Valley farm until it was acquired by New York State. This decades old trail system features over 25 miles of trails, hand cut by locals and Fats in the Cats volunteers. The terrain is varied with some low rolling hills as well as steep climbs. The trail system utilizes natural features which can challenge and entertain riders over a range of skill levels. Fats in the Cats and dedicated local volunteers continue to contribute hundreds of hours working with the NYS DEC to keep the fun rolling.
