Anyone in the Northeast US, think about this one, it should be gorgeous!
Sept 16, 2007 there's a fall foliage version of the race up Whiteface Mtn Veteran's Memorial Highway, in the beautiful Adirondack mountains of upstate New York. 8 miles, 3550 vertical feet of climbing. Yummy.
I've officially signed up, as of today, and there's always room for more. As they say, "it's eight miles, but there's only one hill!"
Here's the bikereg link to register:

I prefer this version of a Whiteface race! This weekend!!!
Longest DH race in the east.
WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Whiteface Mountain, among the most challenging ski and ride mountains in the nation, will host its second annual downhill mountain bike race – a five kilometer competition - on Sunday, September 2.
This NORBA-sanctioned event (National Off-Road Bicycle Association), part of the Gravity East series, will carry a $5,000 pro purse. There will be several thousand dollars additionally in bike-related merchandise for the top three finishers in each amateur class. Category 1 points on the USA Cycling calendar will be awarded.
The Whiteface Downhill 5 Kilometer Mountain Bike Race will present the longest downhill race in the east, with 2,476 vertical feet from the top of
Little Whiteface. _________________ Elevate Cycles|FTW Factory Racing|Blah|Blah|Blah |

Hey, get your own thread, Jim.
Anybody can ride down the mountain. Riding up is the hard part. _________________ steveyo

That is not neceessarily true! HA! 40 mph + boulders + 6 inches of talc like dust laid many to waste yesterday...I stumbled into 2nd place in 40+ expert at 10:53 only because I fell less than others. They did a hardtail class, I'm sure they'd all a uni class for '08!
PS, awesome past write up on your efforts in ADK Sports and Fitness! _________________ Elevate Cycles|FTW Factory Racing|Blah|Blah|Blah |

Congrats on your finish - sounds crazy!
And thanks for the compliment on my ADK article.
A uni class in the DH...hmm...I'd have to do it. Fortunately, unis can't go 40 mph. _________________ steveyo
