Tis the time of year we just wanna ride, and ride a lot. BUT, we need to
keep the bikes lubed. If you can hear your bike, it's telling you something... Sad
There's friction going on. Just shoot a little Tri Flow or whatever your local
bike shop recommends. "Just a little dab will do ya." Hit all the pivot points(for you FS peeps) and a little on the hubs, axels a shot in your brake levers, crank, anything that moves. It really is good preventive maintenance...a quiet bikes, a happy bike.... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I know one thing to look out for...

Squeaking at the wiper seal of the shock. George told me (when I complained of it) that it's a common issue with Fox shocks and that some lube and some time will fix it right up.

I just wish Kona would use bearings instead of crappy bushings...

No it was'nt, it's just a good reminder. This time of year is sooooo
dry out there. The dust just kills all those moving parts. Just some
helpful hints. You just brought it to our attention...... Wink

What about squeaky brakes? I wiped the rotors down with alcohol and lightly sanded the pads and that worked for one ride, now the squeaking is back. I have Magura Marta brakes if it matters and the bike is only 2 months old.

I've used the following to good effect:

Clean rotors with rubbing alcohol (denatured alcohol if you can find it is even better) and a paper towel until ALL the black residue is wiped off. You want the paper towel to come clean.

Drop the pads in a lid or something and cover them with a light bath of alcohol. Scrub the poo out of them with a wire toothbrush (or similar wire brush) until they stop being black and start sparkling again (sintered pads, if I remember correctly.) Grease the piston with the fluid in the system (mineral oil for Martas? I'm not sure on this one) and push it back into the caliper. Reinstall the pads, reinstall the rotor, center it up, squeeze the brakes, recenter the rotor.

If all else fails, try some organic pads (works very well in my experience) or try some automotive brake cleaner.

I find removing the rotors all together cures all brake squeaks. Rolling Eyes

I'm certainly going to start lubing everything, esp. before Kingdom. I don't want to scare all the wildlife (and Canadians).
