Hey Fats,
Your dues were put to good use in helping to fund this project:
http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/2019/February/15/OSI_Bluestone_purchase-15Feb19.html?fbclid=IwAR2IL0i305MWyggYWXFntJX6NL1Dt_F8NexQr01Wldb8BQecw-onKX6V1VQ#.XGaqEr_NYwU.facebook

We have a seat at the table for planning the trails and have been working with OSI and DEC.

Next up will be a fundraising effort to build the trails once the designs are completed

gratefully, Riceman

WLC, OSI Announce Public Meeting on Trail Improvement Plan for Property Adjacent to Bluestone Wild Forest

May 7th Information Session presents vision to improve access and recreation in the Catskill Park

For Immediate Release
Contact: Maxanne Resnick [email protected] 914-466-9263

Towns of Kingston and Woodstock (April 23, 2019)—Woodstock Land Conservancy (WLC) and the Open Space Institute (OSI), in partnership with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), today announced an upcoming public informational meeting about efforts to improve a trail network on OSI-owned land adjacent to DEC’s Bluestone Wild Forest in the Catskill Park.

The public will have the opportunity to learn about and provide input on the trail improvement plan at the informational meeting that will be held on Tuesday, May 7th at Senate Garage on 4 North Front Street in Kingston at 6 PM. Please RSVP to: [email protected].

In February, OSI purchased a 208-acre property, containing intact forest, portions of a beautiful pond and significant wetlands. The property links, via Morey Hill Rd, two previously unconnected sections of the 3,000-acre Bluestone Wild Forest: Jockey Hill to the east and Onteora Lake to the west. The acquisition presented an opportunity to create a comprehensive trail system that connects with the Bluestone Wild Forest’s existing trails.

Working together with the WLC and DEC and in coordination with the Ulster County Planning Department, the Towns of Woodstock and Kingston, bicycle advocacy group Fats in the Cats and Overlook Bicycles, OSI is developing a plan to create a six-mile multi-use trail network on the property.

The trail plan has the potential to advance a regional effort to create hubs of destination-quality mountain biking trails, diversify recreational use of the Catskill Mountains, and increase economic activity through enhanced year-round recreational opportunities.

Located ten minutes from the New York State Thruway in The Towns of Kingston and Woodstock, the trail plan also ties into the effort to connect City of Kingston neighborhoods with the Catskill Park and its High Peaks; expand tourism in Ulster County; and increase outdoor recreational opportunities for local residents and visitors alike.

The trail improvement plan sets the stage for creating regional connectivity of protected lands, and permanently protecting a scenic, forested parcel for public enjoyment and recreation.

We will need to show up in force if we want this connection to happen right!

Local neighbors have concerns and a mining company is seeking a permit next door to this property.

Please listen to Jamesframes above and register and show up for this important meeting on Tuesday.

Ride a chair this Tuesday for the future of mountain bike trails between Jockey and Onteora Lake!

C'mon...

The land purchase by OSI is a done deal.

What remains undone is planning a trail and building it out as much as possible before it passes from OSI to DEC. DEC managed forests must go through a lengthy public process before trails can be developed. If, however the trails are there at the time of transfer they will not be removed if they are built with regards to DEC wetlands and nature concerns. DEC has agreed to help with this planning to that end.

We can take years off the trail development here if we act now.

We need to respond in numbers to the planning board meeting on Monday the 17th....important to note this is the Town of Kingston, not the city, so the meeting place is 906 Sawkill Rd, Kingston, NY 12401
