Hey Guys,
I know that I barely got to ride with y'all during this last month due to my work load and effective procrastination techniques, however, I need to let y'all know that I am about to snub the fats for yet another month.
I was notified yesterday morning that I am wanted on the RV Oceanus (http://www.whoi.edu/page.do?pid=8158) from July 4-28. I depart for Lisbon on July 3, then return to NY on July 29th. We will be drilling sediments off the coast of Africa, from the Cape Verdes Islands to Senegal.
I am soooo excited, this will be my very first seafaring experience YES, I have ordered the seasick patch
Unfortunately, I will not be able to bring a bike with me. I will likely have limited email access and no phone access while at sea.
I will also be missing the trip to VT Just think of me as you're drinking that Mother's Milk at around the same time I'm hauling a drill bit or slabbing mud 12 hours a day.
Cheers!

I second the the congrats! It sounds like a great experience. Hopefully we'll get to see you before your departure. In the event we don't then have fun, take care and be careful. We'll see you upon your return . In the mean time.....since Kevin is practically recovered, you should leave some bikes of his choice in his possession for safe keeping _________________ HOVERING ABOVE THE TIRE TREADS...& SOMETIMES BENEATH! |

I've discovered that most of our airlines suck for international flights, especially the ones that make you buy the crappy headphones to watch the movie. |

It looks like I'm flying Delta/Freedom, Delta/Air France, and Air Senegal. The travel agent that they use to book these things booked it for me. Wicked expensive! I like Delta, I have been flying them all year because it's like the only airline out of Albany. |

I love the Albany airport, even though you still have to fly to a major airport before you can even leave the country. |

Umh......I do believe Continetnal had a little problem with an international flight and raw sewage seeping down the isle . If you're booking with them bring a filtered mask . |
Meh. Flown them for the past 8 years with no problems. Delta and AA have been abominable though.
Doesn't hurt that my old man has 1.8 million frequent flier miles and Platinum One Pass. First Class is the bee's knees. |

Wait...some asshat flushed latex gloves down the toilet, then did it again? Sounds like the passengers need to eat their own.

One of the weirdest airlines I've been on is Aerogal (they fly from Equador to the Galapagos Islands). Every entree they served had corn in it -- and this was for breakfast! |

Congratulations Samantha, that sounds great. Travelling is definitely where it's at! And to prove that we will miss you and want you back, I promise to get Fats in the Cats to rid Jockey Hill of all snakes great and small. (yes even the 30'ers!) _________________ C'mon!! |

HI Samantha,
Have fun at sea- I have sailed to the Cape Verde Islands ( from Sardinia) . They are beautiful.
Look for red dust being blown off the African deserts, and the green flash at sunset! Maybe you will find red dust in your samples from eons ago..
If you want to talk about life at sea, give me a buzz- 876 2526- Josh |

I brought her to the airport this morning, so she is on her way.
It's quite the opportunity for her, and I can't wait to hear all about it Hopefully, someone on the boat brought a camera and can take pictures of what she is actually doing.
Have a good 4th everyone,
-Kevin |
