Hello. I was just curious what people think are the best single-track riding locations in the area this time of year to avoid conflict with hunters. I have no problem with hunting and firearms but mostly just want to respect hunters' space. I went to Stewart recently and didn't really enjoy all the close-by shooting. I'm sure the bird hunters didn't like the noise we were making either. I haven't been to Lippman yet and have been thinking about trying that. I assume there is hunting at 909, right?

Thanks

Thank you for all the recommendations. I will try to tick these places off in the coming weeks. How about Elm Ridge? Is there hunting on that property. I haven't been yet but it fits with my travel plans. Thanks

I'll be near Stewart all day Sunday and I was hoping to sneak away from a horse show to do some riding. Is the whole park open for hunting? Rifles or something else?

Bottom line, should I stay away from there? If so, is there any other place that is nearby that is gun free?

Thanks in advance. Jeremy

Jeremy et al - Camp Orange/Highland Lakes State Park has bow hunting only and only weekdays - it's getting to be the time of year when Stewart isn't worth it - it's full of bird hunters now and soon will be closed for deer season anyway...

Camp O - http://www.nynjtc.org/park/highland-lakes-state-park Call Bicycle Doctor in Middletown I think they sell a map

I can meet you there one afternoon during the week, Jeremy - let me know

I agree just stay away from Stewart this time of year.

Camp orange is a nice alternative. Tricky to navigate but there's a nice 13 mile loop to be had. Tamms rd is a good starting point

Stewart gets scary this time of year. Someone who was mushrooming was shot by a hunter a couple of years ago.

GG & Steve, Thanks for the color on Highland Lakes. I'm going to head over there Sunday morning.

Is there any signage indicating the trials?

Jeremy

For Highland Lakes, here is a Garmin Route that can be downloaded: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/245821098

Huntington near Danbury is worthy and hunt free. Nearby Bennets Pond I'm pretty sure is no hunting.

MA and NJ have awesome no hunting options not too far: Check Lenox MA from the Arcadian bike shop!

Also note that there is hunting on Illinois Mt.

I think Farrington has hunting and I believe they are still having official boundary issues.
Blue Mountain Reservation is hunt free.

On Sunday, I visited Camp Orange aka Highland Lakes and was able to join Bicycle Doctor group that started at 9:30am. They are there most Sundays with a 9:30 am start. I would classify it as a "no drop" ride.

I am glad to have met those guys because there is minimal if any trail marking and I would have spent more time getting lost than riding. No hunters and once on the trails, we didn't see anybody else.

No hunting in Farrington, confirmed Laughing

Regarding boundary issues, the trail formerly known as Lawnmower should be avoided as it is right behind a number of homes that are owned by the landowner, AIG. Their property is about 1500 acres in total.
