NYSDEC has released the draft unit management plan that covers the Vernooy Kill State Forest.

Please read the plan and respond to it in writing by November 13, 2018.
The pages of the plan that cover mountain bike use in this section are on pages 218 on.

As folks who remember riding the Lundy Estate in 2006 and on will notice, none of those trails are included in this plan. Although the trails were mapped by GPS and submitted to DEC some years ago, there is no provision for bringing those trails into the current plan.

Also not included is the connecting trail from Lippman Park to Lundy Road, though this trail has been operated legally by Temporary Revocable Permit for several years now.

It is as though the DEC thinks the Mountain Bike Community is not a large enough nor vocal enough constituency to be heard in this plan.

Is anyone out there willing to raise their voice to change this seeming misconception?

You can comment in person on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 6:00 PM at the Ellenville Public Library at 40 Center Street, Ellenville, NY.

Written comments submitted on time must be considered by DEC.

The Vernooy Kill State Forest (former Lundy Estate) had some of the best trails in the region. We lost access to this fun trail system in 2009. The area has potential for a great trail network. If you can't attend the meeting, please send in written comment at least asking for recreational opportunities for mountain biking. Thanks!
