Recently G and I set out from across Harriman RR station to explore Sterling Forest. Not knowing what to expect for challenge, terrain or trail conditions we had an excellent 3+ hour ride in the northern part of the 22k acre park.

An attempt at bringing back the Golden Warbler population is underway. Meaning, the forest is being thinned in one are back to its previous farm field condition.

Mostly, the terrain was similar to other Hudson Highlands trails...rocky & beautiful

The riding is technical -sometimes hike-a-bike.

Some adventurous types like this stuff!

As in many of the Highland woods, size XL stone work. There were 2 of these walls parallel for a distance

We did this as an out to a loop and back, south bound. Right off 17k we were here:

These trails were in need of minor clearing, which we helped with. We stayed off the Appalachain Trail, and were happy that some Sterling Forest trails are finally open to bikes. As a larger or multi-day adventure, it seems worth looking into a way to get to adjoining Ringwood park. Note there is almost no biking in Harriman, Bear Mt, or Palisades Parks.

My hometown! Lots of terrain down there. I'm in next time you do this, as long as I'm physically able.
