HRRT Hudson Valley is excited to host an intermediate/advanced skills clinic at Ninham State Forest on August 2nd with instructor Tom Oakes! Tom Oakes is a professional DH mountain bike racer and has many years of experience as a professional coach and clinician.
The clinic will start off at 10:00 am teaching skills that pertain to downhill, freeride, and enduro MTB.
We will break for lunch provided by HRRT at around noon, followed by a 2 hour ride on the trails.
This clinic is limited to 6 participants to give the necessary attention to each rider. $100 includes HRRT membership, $60 for those who are already HRRT members.

Checked out BikeReg and HRRT but the details are really scant. Any more info regarding actual topics/skills covered? Is an AM, Freeride, or DH bike recommended. Also wondering how much can be covered/practiced considering the tameness of Ninham's trails (as opposed to MCBP or Plattekill). |

You should be fine on any mountain bike, but full suspension is probably best.
Here is the schedule:
10-12 Learn and practice skills on level ground/parking lot that will help you on the trails
12-1 Lunch
1-3 Practice skills and session on trails, very slowly so everyone can practice different challenges one at a time.
There will be a lot of one-on-one work and you will receive a lot of personal attention to help you with your position on the bike with different challenges. You will be given skills to practice at home that will continue to improve your skill. |

Just signed up.
BTW - BikeReg shows 9 spots, not 4 (5 camp + membership; 4 camp only). |

I know, we're going to have to close it off when it hits 6 total.. it was the only way to set it up. |

I waited a day to see if I would calm down or feel differently before I said anything. I have not.
All - if you're thinking about taking a course like this get solid clarification of what is actually being covered.
This was not advanced, this was not even intermediate; it was MTB 101. Downhill? Enduro? Freeride?! Please. This course would have made sense to me if it were 20+ years ago when I got my first rigid frame MTB. |

Update - issue has been resolved amicably and I look forward to seeing truly advanced clinics/classes from them in the future. |

Major bummer dude.
I'm glad you got it resolved, but wow...talk about misrepresentation of services. _________________ P.E.A.C.E. - Rza |

It happens. Important thing is that it got discussed, the result of which should hopefully help avoid miscommunication from happening in the future. |
