This would be a good look if you were wearing a NY DEP uniform or badge, or even a Scenic Hudson uniform and were working with permission.

How many times during a trail maint. days have they asked for people to bring their chainsaws.............never.

I heard recently a man was killed on state lands doing trailwork by a "widowmaker.

I'm not sure of the official story but it should be posted up here since it affects all trailworkers.

Nice bike, looks like a Surly?

The trail worker that was killed after Sandy cleanup efforts was working with an experienced chain sawyer crew as a swamper who was cleaning up debris cut by the chain saw crew. He was over 150 feet away and not wearing a safety helmet. The guys up ahead were cutting a tree that hit another tree that hit the crook of another tree, which caused the top of the second tree to break off and unfortunately hit the poor person on the head causing a fatal blow.

That's as much as I remember from what I was told.

I like the way that fat bike is set up for trail work by the way.

I've put a chain saw in an old baby seat.... not on state trails....and no photos. One thing I can say about chain saw use is be sure to make the cut just wide enough for bicycles, that way ATVs will be discouraged from poaching and widening the trail. I've also used an old two man saw for cutting and you would be surprised how fast it cuts if sharp. Embarassed
