I may have asked before, but what do you folks know about the Catskill area?

Trying to plan some overnights via mtb on dirt roads, jeep, and singletrack hike/bike trails-

Favorite Dirt roads?

Exploring that has paid off-or not?

Thinking Woodstockish area...

Overlook Turnpike is great in both directions, just did it a few weeks ago. If you haven't done that before, I would definitely include.

Mink Hollow, while listed as a primitive bicycle corridor, it a ton of hike-a-bike. Would not recommend.

just hiked overlook mt for the first time today--

turnpike goes from mead to prediger rd. Is this marked? Trail name? Or is this the blue trail the heads out to Devils Kitchen lean-to?

Yes, same blue trail that goes by the DK lean-to. Shortly after the lean-to, you have to get on the red the trail to Prediger Rd. Everything is well marked and well traveled. Here is my track to see exactly where is goes and elevation:

I just hiked Mt Tremper from Phoenecia. I would not recommend that, even though its mostly road width. Lots of loose rock & an uninspiring hike. I'd much rather ride a few feet then hike a few and repeat on Mink Hollow, at least its scenic techy singletrack. Thats how most singletrack is in the Cats.

Hunter. Old jeep road to fire tower. Great lean-to along the way with a spring.

Spruceton Rd east off of Rt 42. Drive ~8 mi. Large trailhead/parking lot on left. There's a sign. Enjoy.

No Bill it isn't. Spuceton rd is on the West side of Hunter mtn and Diamond Notch rd is more South of Hunter mtn. I see on the DEC website that according to the State Land Interactive Mapping tool (SLIM) Diamond Notch is ridable over toward Spruceton rd but then ends?

Plus, are you saying you can't mtn bike on ANY state land trail unless it's designated to do so? I thought you could ride any state land trail as long as you don't have a motorized vehicle, true? And thanks for the info, you too Mr.? Edgeworker!....

Across the road from the Hunter trail lies Westkill Mtn. I've been the trail stewart for the section of the Devil's Path from the falls to the summit for the last 11 years. Too steep to ride but a great hike with awesome views near the top.
