Yesterday I saw new paths the 4 Wheelers were using to straighten trails. It really sucks how just a few motorized passes can have such a negative impact!

Motorized Vehicles are Only Allowed on the Main Dirt Roads, NOT THE SNOWMOBILE TRAIL unless they have a firewood permit. This permit does not allow them to root around anywhere else!

If you can get a plate#, or picture please call the Forest Ranger Office @ 845-256-3026, or Ranger Jason Scott @ 845-340-1070. Or if you wish to send me any info I will call.

Any narrowing of trails with rocks/sticks we can do will discourage motorized vehicles.

I saw that too. It is too bad that there is no enforcement up on Jockey Hill.
It is just a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured by one of those guys.
It seems like they go out of their way to threaten all of the LEGAL
and responsible trail users. What really gets me is that guy parked on state land to ride his 4 wheeler in a prohibited area.

Where is the enforcement?

one big problem with catching them is that a lot of guys don't have plates on the 4 wheelers, most don't even register them or insure them.

That sucks man!!

While we are not riding to avoid trail damage , the Motoheads are ripping up the trails anyway.

Barbara , the DEC firewood lady, is really specific where she wants people driving, and tells everyone which muddy areas to avoid.

We gotta get some new signs and plan some good stategic barricade building.

later

This saga has taken a maddening twist...
The Quads have been going above a large tree fall on the Cop Trail (The trail parallel and above the gut after Camp trail). On Sunday "G" did what he's done hundreds of times there and carefully cleared the trail so as to keep it as narrow as possible, but still rideable (this may be the most effective way to keep motors from widening and harming the trails). One of the frequent Quad riders, "C", rides a big red utility quad, often with his helmetless daughter on the back. He's the guy who cleared a dirt road along side the state boundary line last year.
There's another character, "AJ" who is an older hiking gent who has taken it apon himself to paint a white blaze on every other tree on the cop trail. He also likes to sign some of his trail work. You can see that "AJ" arrived to the tree fall and widened "G's" work enough to let a quad through!!!! and then signed it Mad Exclamation
