I just spent 100 miles riding an '09 Trance with a Fox F series/120 fork. Since that is essentially my bike with the new 15QR fork/hub it was a fair comparison.

It seems to be safer, and I did notice the more solid front while steering and landing drop-offs. The weight penalty is slight. I found it easiest to flip the bike to unthread -the flip added 5 seconds to normal wheel removal time.

I'll be happy to own one on my next fork, but Im not changing over my current set-up.

The only problem I see with things like this are the adoption of new "standards" throughout the industry.

In the grand scheme of things, now we have QR, 12mm bolt through, 15mmQR, and 20mm bolt through (quick release and bolt through.) Honestly, if you need stiffness, use a quick release 20mm (like the new Reba which has "Maxle Lite".) If you need really strong, use a bolt on/bolt through 20mm.

The 15mmQR just adds one more headache and one more "standard" to things. Fun fun, right?

the 15mm QR or the Maxle are the best I have used!

When using that type of fork, what is needed if you want to use a fork mount roof rack? Is it something similar to what the Cannondale Lefty needs?

They make racks that fit most QR's but the best is to just get an upright rack.

If I can stub my toe hiking up it, its a drop off going down it!

The old standard axle was 9mm.

Here I think bigger is better.

Not saying it's not. In fact, I agree, bigger IS better. But there are too many standards that have been adopted right now. If they phase out the QR for mountain bikes, it will make sense.

Damn, Trail Cycling went and got all complicated.

I prefer carrying a 15MM wrench so I can loosen the bolt if I get a flat.
