The club may have an opportunity to help a land manager map existing trails. We would need GPS units for a 1-day effort. Please post up if you'd be willing to let the club borrow it for a day. Make and model too, if you know it.
You will be glad you did.

Pete - I've got a Magellan Explorist 600 that can be used. It doesn't have the greatest battery length (2-3hrs. before recharge) but if you talk nicely to it I'm sure it will treat you right. |

Where's being mapped?
I've got an Edge 305 that can be imported into any mapping software out there (.gpx file) so that may work. |

Depending on the day I may be able to get you a mapping grade Trimble Packpack unit. It runs sub-meter accuracy but I will have to process the data and get it back to you. I can supply the data in just about any format you need it in, including CAD, Point Files and Shape Files.
I can also create topo maps from the USGS DEM Data. 10' accurate in most places and it can be as good at 2' accurate.
I am a land surveyor and this is what I do on a daily basis so if you need anything let me know.

Tom, I'm a GIS technician/analyst/educator. I'd be glad to work with you on maps if that's necessary or helpful. As for GPS, I only have a Garmin recreational unit, though it is one of the newer ones with the high sensitivity receiver, Garmin's answer to the SiRF chip. |

It's great that we have so many well qualified people that ride bikes. I cant say what the project is yet but if it happens I'll put the word out to the club. Thanks. |
