I'm posting this up for anyone who might have even the slighteset interest. This will be my 5th rally as a spectator and I really enjoy it...

The International Rally New York is September 22-23 in Narrowsburg, NY just a few miles southwest of Monticello. From Kingston, it takes me a little over an hour to get there. This event is an all gravel rally, unlike the spring rally which is all tarmac.

What is rally? One of the oldest motorsports around. Overseas, it ranks closely with soccer. In a nutshell, cars race on a series of stages for the fastest time.

What is a rally car? A specially prepared street legal vehicle that can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $500,000 to prepare. All sorts are present at this rally. Most cars are Subarus and Mitsubishis, but there are also VW's, DSM's, Toyota's, ect. Here is what the cockpit usually looks like:

What is a spectator? A mildly insane person(but not as insane as a Polish or Irish rally fan) who will stand/sit with other nutty people through all types of weather, waiting for the rumble of the car and the 5 seconds of viewing. See picture below for reference. Then it's more waiting, hanging out, ect. It is a very relaxing atmosphere, and you will possibly experience some sensory overload.

Here are some of my pictures and videos from past events. If you are interested in knowing more about this event, you can ask me questions about it or visit www.rallynewyork.com

I'd imagine many of us have watched it on TV. Awesome stuff, would love to see it live. I actually give the co-pilot alot of credit. I have a hard time reading a magazine on the thruway without getting motion sickness, let alone hauling arse down a twisty dirt road at 80mph

Oh yeah, I forgot about having to read a map while moving. I guess I'm out as far as being a co-pilot. I'll just have to drive! Twisted Evil

New pictures and video will be shared shortly! I didn't get as many this past rally, but there are still a few good ones.

Until then, enjoy some Group B rally footage from the mid 80's. Too fast to race anymore...true story.

If that happens when you see a clean one, I don't want to know what happens when things get a little dirty!

Another Rally NY has come and gone. Good news, it's getting closer to home! Rally headquarters was in Ellenville, and some stages were run on the Lundy Road/Rogues Harbor area. No official spectator area there unfortunately.

In fact, the spectator area (only one) was really lame this rally. Usually there are about 4/day, but no this time. Limited pictures and video, the area just didn't lend itself to it.

And a couple pictures from the April rally:
