Just started burning wood this past winter & while splitting some of my firewood I split a few pieces that had carpenter ants in them. I sprayed the ants & killed most of them. Is this something I should worry about? I just got 3 truck loads of fresh cut maple & that is where the ants came from (just a couple pieces so far). I still have a pile about 5' high & 15' long to go.
Thanks |

Get the wood with the ants in it far away from your house and the other wood. You can spray them 'till you're blue, and there will still be a bunch you don't kill, but you piss them off pretty good. Been doing it for 30 years, trust me on it. It's much better to lose a few pieces of wood than it is to get them living in your house. I'll tell you a story about that tomorrow. |

is there an easy way to tell if the wood has ants in it without splitting the wood? I have a ton of maple waiting to be split & I would hate to get rid of it all? I also hear that it really isn't a big deal if you see a bunch of ants because once you split the wood they scurry away & as long as it is stacked & dried properly you have nothing to worry about? Like I said I am pretty new to the whole wood burning thing so any info is very helpful. I just dont want an infestation of ants or termites for that matter in my house. |
