Hey all! I rode for a year about 2 years ago, but quite abruptly when my bike was stolen. I'd really like to get into it again, but don't yet have a new ride. My question is, if I do invest in another bike, how often do people get together? Just trying to get a feel for how many other riders there are and how often they go out. The guys I used to ride with all left the area, or quit riding as well.

Thanks for any info!!

Welcome!

Where do you live? There are probably 1-2 rides/day in the nice weather. Chances are someone is local to you and will be more than happy to show you around somewhere.

Also, remember to join the club to help support what we do!

See you on the trails,

Thanks for the info guys! I did a bunch of google searches for places to ride, and nothing was as informative as this site, kudos to everyone for such a great job.

I'm local to the New Paltz area, but work in Fishkill, and used to ride Stewart MUA pretty regular and Blue Mtn every once in a while. I'm definately going to join the club when I get a bike, and speaking of which, anyone have any input on the '07 Iron Horse Warrior line of bikes? I know it wouldn't be the greatest bike, but I'm on a limited bike budget and really just want something that will hold up for a while and not break the bank.

I'm looking to spend less than $1000. Preferably less than more, but I don't want something that'll get beat up in a year.

Thats a good number. If you like the Warrier line check out: http://www.rscycle.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.531/.f

But I suggest you spend some time at the shops. I've bought most of my shop bikes during the winter and they were all leftovers. If you have any idea of a specific bike let me know, I'm always checking out the deals in shops from here down to Jersey.
You can also find some great deals at: http://www.qbike.com/category/mountainbikes.html

If you shop around, you should be able to find a reliable hardtail for $1000.00 or less. Stay away from anything with full suspension for that price.

Check out Bike Depot in New Paltz or Overlook Mountain Bikes in Woodstock. Both have some really good bikes for really attractive prices.

Wow guys! Thanks for the great info. I'll definately look into some of the shops around town and see what they have. As far as specific bike, I'm pretty much open to whatever will do a little of everything.

I was wondering about hardtail versus DS. My budget is definately fixed in that bracket, but I have seen some DS bikes in my range. Is it a definate to steer away from anything but hardtails? Some of the DS bikes have decent component setups, but they're mostly single pivot that I've seen. Any opinions on a single pivot?

Thanks again guys!

Used ds bikes under $1k are very worth considering: Trance's, Rush's, etc...
I think a new Giant like the Trance or Anthem are the best bang for the bucks. Slightly over your budget but come with lifetime frame warranty.
Single pivots are no worry -literally less worry for maintenance. They compromise nothing, at least from my years of C-Dale experience.
Im also a huge fan of Avid mechanical disc brakes, which you'll commonly find in that range.

SWEET! What size are you?

Edit: Its a 2002, msrp was around $2500.

I wouldn't buy that when I could buy this for $300...but then again, I have a soft spot for steel framed boutique bicycles Smile
