Are not good. Dave has asked that people stay off the trails until the mud goes away or things re-freeze. He said that on Sunday there was a lot of damage done to all 3 parks.
Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads-up. Totally understandable down there. When you get that much usage, that could do damage very quick. Almost like running a race every weekend
Maybe we won't get much rain this week so it can dry out a bit down there _________________ greg

Hey Tom,
Is there a formal protocol for assessing trail conditions and making riding advisories for Blue, Sprain, and Graham Hills? Dave is affiliated with the Westchester County Parks, along with being a rider, right? Based upon conditions, he's generally the person who makes recommendations?
To date, we've relied on knowledgeable local "point people" to make common sense recommendations on many of our riding areas such as 909, Hyde Park, Wilson, Jockey Hill, and Onteora Lake where we don't want to see trail damage. I look forward to some of the regulars doing the same for Ferncliff and Stewart this year.
In some regions Land Managers close and open trails. It's certainly preferable to make responsible decisions about trail riding conditions and to control our own destiny. The WMBA and Fats Forums are a good place for people to see what the recommendations are.

Dave is our Parks representative and he generally advises us when he feels things are not good but he does not officially open or close the parks (except under extreme cases). He does have to approve all trail work or new trails.
We also rely on the locals for trail conditions. Most of the WMBA folks are pretty good about these things. As the spring gets closer you'll get an almost daily update on the trails from people hiking to attempting to ride.
Every spring and fall we do a few of trail work weekends in all three parks. We are the main train stewards of all three parks for the county.
Whenever there is a trail work day at Blue I encourage everyone to come down. We rent the lodge for the night and usually get a keg (or 2) of Captain Lawrence. Always good times!!! You might even catch an appearance by the semi-official WMBA band...The Blue Mtn. Ramblers!!
As I spend my first full year living up here I plan to become more involved with the trails at Stewart and on Mt. Beacon.
