If you don't drink your beer with ice, you'll be perfectly safe. Adding ice to beer is a dangerous practice any time of the year, the cubes get stuck in the funnel. _________________ Never under estimate the single speed. |

FROZEN BEER IS FOR BABIES!
Plattekill mt had three inches of fresh snow for their last downhill event this past Sunday. People were tumblin like dice. I'll be honest. It was fun to watch but not much fun to do. Many bikes had frozen drive trains. Thats usually what keeps me from riding in the winter.
Whats your worst winter riding stories?? I once endoed into a frozen stream. cccccold! but fun.

It's been years, back when I was 15-16 riding my BMX. Back then it seemed we got alot more snow. We use to make trails along the tops of the snow banks throughout the neighborhood. At the beginning of each snow bank was higher than the rest because thats where it met up with the driveways. Trails packed down nicely (usually).Anyways one day I went flying up the snow bank, did a little jump, when my front tire landed, it crushed through the snow and I INSTANTLY went over the handlebars.
You've heard of road rash, well that day I got ice/salt/sand rash on my chin and side of my face _________________ greg

I've had a few spills, but one of my favorite rides of winter was last year. Climbing the fireroad up Mt Beacon...you know, my fav place... anyways...there was like 4-6 inches of ice and snow on the whole road..Except for where the water was running. It was about a foot wide and zig zagged back and forth on the way down....it was hard to get up, but coming down...was insane. We we're like in a bobsled run..I think we came down faster that day, than we did when it was dry.. and the mud and water we could'nt even see....

I'm down for riding as long as I can in the season, though once my Camelbak hose freezes under the insulation and I start running into things because I've got no traction, then I start to pursue other activities (just not knitting!!).
That's cool that you guys are able to push through year-round. My body enjoys a couple of months of rest and re-coup and winter activities. But I'm always available for beer (a year-round hobby) |
If Rob won't go biking or drinking or both with you, give me a call |

I remember the 1st ride I was wearing my new "Sealskinz" waterproof and insulated socks. I couldn't help but Run my Mouth before the ride, about how dry and warm my feet would be, etc, etc.
Well, wouldn't you know, at the first stream crossing of the night, I spun a tire, bounced off a rock, and landed like a turtle on my back in the middle of the icy stream!
My feet were warm and dry until I stood up, and the water filled my socks from being submerged above my cuff line!
Moral of the story: ??
(I still like to Run my Mouth!! ) _________________ Ride Hard, Finish Smilin'! And may every ride be your "Best Ride Ever!" |

The best is when everyone runs over a piece of ice and you're the last one and your front tire plunges through! Totally unexpected.
I can't wait for Stewart to open again during the day. Some of those climbs are much easier with a little snow. |

biking is my first love.. |
As long as you're not making love to the bike, it's all good. |
And if you do, don't get caught...
