I'm thinking of converting my Trek Rumblefish 29er to 27.5+

Does anyone know if 27.5x2.8" tires will work with standard rims?

I'd check the Wheels & Tires forum on MTBR

When I get my 2.8 Maxxis Rekon's I'll let you know. My Santa Crux 26 is converted to 27.5 and standard rims. Should be about a week.

Like most questions in life, the answer is, "it depends."

You will most likely get the tires to seat on the rims and they will roll fine in the straight line. The issues may begin to happen when you go in to tight cornering where depending on the bead-to-bead width of the rim and the sidewall strength of your mid-fat tire, you may get a tendency of the tire to "roll" off the rim.

My advice would be to give it a try and see (carefully) what happens. Personally, I ended up buying a set of Stans Hugo 52 rims for my Turner Sultan. Not so much that I "had" to, but simply made the commitment - with no regret. My Sultan now rides better than any bike I've ever owned. Sold my Santa Cruz Tallboy LtC XTR as a result and haven't looked back.

It mounts up and looks kinda ok. Waiting for some parts for the bike to try and actually ride it.....

Ok, got the front on the bike with no issues. Tires specs out to about 2.6".

No way on the rear. Width is ok but circumference is not. I'm not surprised since it's a 26" bike with a 27.5 fork.

Going from 29 to 27.5 plus there shouldn't be circumference issue, maybe width.
