Yeeeahhh Boyyy!!

The New Paltz Bike Swap is Saturday May 18th at the New Paltz Middle School in New Paltz NY from 10 AM to 2 PM!

This is our 6th year and we expect several hundred attendees and dozens of vendors. There will be bikes, bike parts, apparel and more on sale. Last year we sold dozens and dozens of bikes including mountain, road, vintage, fixies, trials, kids and cruisers. There are many tables of bike parts and bike stuff for sale and you never know what bikey stuff you will find. It's a fun event that is free to everyone and open to the public. Check our website for all the details at www.newpaltzbikeswap.com. Or see tons of photos on Facebook (search for New Paltz Bike Swap).

Come with items to sell. You can turn new or used bikes or parts into cash or trade with others.

The event is a fund raiser for your club - the Fats in the Cats Bike Club. It's the main way this group generates funds to support cycling advocacy and trails in the Hudson Valley. The club gets 20% of items sold as a donation so please mark your items accordingly. Vendor check in starts at 9 AM. Doors open from 10 to 2 PM. Come out and see what treasures you can buy or sell.

Come early for the best selection.

We need volunteers before and during the event. Email Pete at [email protected] to get involved.

Remember what Stinky says: Get involved ya bums!

Crowd sourcing needed!

As we head into Spring (and spring cleaning) please keep your eyes open for old bikes being given away, at yard sales or at the transfer station. If they are not totally trashed, please grab them and let me know.

We can bring them back to life and get back into the community at the bike swap. Bike = mobility and mobility = life.

We already have at least 10 'rescue' bikes for the swap. They sell quick and are a great source of income for our club.

Help Save Funding for the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail (NY)

Funding for the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail project is in jeopardy. Though $2 million of funding for the project was included in the governor’s executive budget, various legislators have recommended removing it. The project will transform the former Ulster and Delaware railroad corridor along Route 28 into a premier, multi-use recreational trail. The project will connect urban neighborhoods in the City of Kingston with rural communities in the Catskills, expand recreational opportunities for people throughout the region and spur economic development by attracting tourists to the area and create new jobs.

The bike swap getting some big-time attention - it's great to see IMBA supporting our local event.

If you have old bikes or bike parts bring them to the swap. You can turn old bike stuff into cash money. Or you can score a sweet deal on a cruiser, old school road bike or sweet ballon tire singlespeed for your local singletrack ride.

Come out and support your local bike culture!

Saturday May 18th from 10 AM to 2 PM at the New Paltz Middle School (1 mile from NYS Thruway New Paltz Exit). It's free to get in and this year we will be having a 'mini-Rush' bike scavenger hunt that everyone can do (kids thru pros).

The Bike Swap is coming up fast! Bike swap 'tagging and bike repair party' will be held on Thursday 5/16 at my place (20 Hellbrook, 12487) at 6 PM. It's BYOB with pizza provided. We wrench on bikes, tag items for the swap and have a good ole time.

And volunteers are needed the day of the Swap! You can help your club (and local trails) by getting involved. We need people to help with check in, matching buyers with bikes, answering questions and getting people signed up for our club.

PM me or email: embracexs at yahoo.

The New Paltz Bike Swap was a huge success! We raised a bunch of money for our club (to fund trail building and mtn bike projects), and got many unused bikes out of basements, garages and sheds back into the community.

Thanks to everyone that got involved: Chrissy, Jamie, Kevin, Ray, Mary, Matt, Jen, Pat, Cara, Erik, Kate, Sue, Andreas, Craig, Frank (and anyone else I forgot).

See you at the next bike swap in May 2014 .
