I purchased a Rumblefish last fall and I love it. One problem though, the Bonty TLR 29-3 were great but sidewalls were thin and tore out after a few months. Been riding a Fire Pro XC 2.1 on the front and either a Michelin AT 2.0(large for posted size)or a Sagauro 2.2 in the back. All have been good tires with good and bad points but I'd like to move back to the larger volume, at least a real 2.25 or thereabouts.
Fire Pro is good all around tire but lugs too big for back-rolls slow. Michelin good rear tire, measures about 2.1 but doesn't like slick rock, Sagauro good all around tire but seems susceptible to getting punctures through tread area-thank you Stan's.
They need to have sidewalls that wont tear out and rears tire needs to roll fairly well, front can be bigger lugs for braking.
I hear Schwalbe's are good but thin in the side.
Has anyone run the new Ikon's? A bit steep for price right now but maybe the
they'll come down.
I'm planning on running these tubeless but I don't need them to be tubeless ready, none of above mentioned tires are TR and have sealed fine. I'm not racing or doing serious jumping so All Mt fare is about right. Ideally they should also be a decent tire on wet rocks or roots.

Any suggestions are helpful.

(Hey)
If the Fire x/c rolls slow maybe you want a more minimalist tire biased towards hard pack?
Some WTBs and Specialized are like that...
Maxxis Ardent is one I'd try but it may roll slower than the Fire.

I've heard really good things about Kenda Kharmas recently. They don't look like a race tire, but a lot of pros race on them. I just ordered a pair of slant 6, we'll see how they go.

Not a huge 2.4 , but has been my staple front tire for a couple of years now. Reasonable weight as well

Started on Kenda Kharma's last year.
Sidewall sliced the front tire within two weeks
Went to a Maxxis 2.1 in front til winter
Riding Panaracer Rampage 2.35 now
Reviews say this tire is slow going uphill and that is my current excuse...
otherwise good all mountain tire so far

My two 29ers are running ignitor 2.1's. They seem to be descent all 'rounders, been running them for about two years now, I haven't felt the need to try anything else yet. On wet polished slickrock they are sketchy, but unless you go with a sticky compound almost any tire is gonna be sketchy. For super sloppy conditions or snow I'll put the mountain kings on, but the mk's have a narrow range of use, the knobs are too flexy for dry trails and hardpack. My first 29er had a nanoraptor in the back, it was an uberfast rolling tire but not too good in mud or loose conditions.

Take a look at the "Conti Mountain King II" 2.4. They offer incredible bite and shed mud nicely. Unfortunately the 2.4's aren't offered with sidewall protection the 2.1's are.
Conti's setup well with tubeless.
You may also want to look into the X King as a rear.

The Ikon is a great XC tire but you may loose some braking bite due to the minimal tread.
