When the NY winter gets to be too much, I visit family in Norfolk/Williamsburg area of VA. The trails there are excellent: buffed hardpack under pine needles, twisty, & slightly hilly in densely wooded forest parks. These are the kinds of trails that are great for all abilities, not too technical or much climbing. There are a half dozen small (5-8 miles) trail systems within the Williamsburg area. With their size, I often ride light and leave the camelback in the car.
The local club http://www.evma.org has brought a lot of great trails to the area and has a very positive presence. A few miles seem to be added each year. Amongst other points of interest on their boards, I recommend you check out the New Zealand Trip pics. Or pics of me doing trail work like:
Here's a typical trail setting, notice lots of debris remain from various Hurricanes:
Freedom Park is the newest and has lots of room for expansion.
My brother and I went to the indoor Kart Track and had a blast. The feeling of racing is there in tight handling 6hp karts!

On my way home I stopped and rode Poor Farm Park, just outside of Richmond. I lucked out and met up with a guy from http://www.richmond-more.org/home/ who showed me around. Here's a shot of Poor Farm Park:
When winter's in its last throes here I highly suggest a weekend down there...check out the trails, the history, Busch Gardens, etc.
Also, a video of myself riding up a hill we'd just bench cut:

Scenic like Roundtop, without the elevation or rocks. The trails down there are buff!
Preaching to the choir, but bike people are generally pretty good people! _________________ Pedal, b*tches!! |
