im sad to say that I will be moving soon out of the hudson valley area, i will greatly miss the 909 and this fantastic community. with the aquisition of Wyeth by the big beast Pfizer I have been forced to look for jobs elsewhere. Fortunately I am looking at a couple of job opportunities and they happen to have some riding nearby. I was wondering if anyone has ridden in these areas or could give me an opinion on where you would rather live.

I am looking at either just East of New Haven, CT where there looks to be some nice riding in the Guilford area at some place called Westwoods.

Or Thousand Oaks, CA where I would be near the trailheads of the Santa Monica mountains.

The Ct location has some great riding besides westwoods, but CA = bigger adventures, imho.
Good luck!

In the Santa Monica area you'll be dealing with lots of traffic. There are some nice scenic trails but not too technical. Mostly fireroad climbs with singletrack descents. Most of the trails are in direct sun without the benefit of tree cover and it's hot and dry in the summers but the winters are mild. My wife's sister lives near there and I visit quite often

Check out this site for info on the trails:

In the New Haven area you have lots of riding, my kids go to college up in Middletown, which in my opinion is a mecca for technical single track riding.

Miller's Pond, Middlesex, Trumbull, Case Mountain, West Woods are some of the places I've ridden but there are many more options. Check out this regional trail maps:
