A 46-year-old female bicyclist was injured Sunday afternoon on northbound Route 9W by Oak Street.
The New Jersey woman was seriously injured and rushed to Nyack hospital by ambulance, Orangetown police said.
Police intially said she was struck by a vehicle but later said they could not confirm specifics about the incident.
"We are investigating the accident," said Sgt. Sean Russo.
The woman was injured at 3:47 p.m., Russo said.
He did not provide details about her injuries and did not release her name because her family had not been notified.
Police are asking that anyone who might have witnessed the accident contact Orangetown police at 845-357-3700.
What I find a bit offensive are the blog comments: http://www.lohud.com/article/20091011/NEWS03/910110400/1019/NEWS03/Woman-bicyclist-injured-in-accident-in-Nyack _________________ Everything you wanted to know about downhill mountain biking at Whiteface but were afraid to ask!!! www.downhillmike.com

The comments would make me laugh if it weren't that people get killed as a result of the attitudes expressed by many of the pro-motorist idjits on the blog.
To the ones who say we don't belong on the road, we belong on bike paths, my response is: "Plan for, raise taxes for, and then build bike paths/bike lanes, or else please be quiet." Bikes have the right to be on most roadways, look it up in any states motor vehicle laws.
To the ones who say we should drive a car like everybody else all I can say is: "$40 a gallon gasoline can't happen too soon." I have to admit, as much as I cringed every time I filled my tank when gas was $4 a gallon, I'd start laughing (inside) every time I saw someone driving a hummer pull up to the pump.
Arghh ... enuff venting. Back to work.
