Who has Tubeless? You happy with them? What are the pros and cons. I've read one of the main pros to going tubeless is you can run less pressure. For me though, I always like to run my tires hard, unless we are riding when it's wet. I did run tubeless for awhile, but doing the Jockey Hill, Onteora Lake thing, I went through a couple tires in a month. So, I'm starting to have issues with my WTB rear hub. If it becomes a common occurrence, I may be looking into new wheels and was just wondering if I should go the tubeless route. I do know you can run regular tires on tubeless rims so if I ever wanted to try tubeless, I could. Anyways, what are your thoughts on tubeless? _________________ greg

Well this is my 2 cents
By a set of tubeless wheels anyway.
you can put both types of tires on without any problem
Tubeless is troublesome with the stans stuff when you get a big flat
running conventional tires on tubeless rims can work out well but I have yet to find a good tire for that. Kendas do OK but slow leak for ever. Conties do well on air sealing but those tire in my opinion suck on rock when tires are wet.
Don't run too low a pressure on Tubeless because you can actually pinch flat them. I've done two now.
I find tubeless to be more compliant with the trail
Tubes need to be run at higher pressures |

Toobless since '02.
For rocky terrain like Jockey Hill, the benefit would be greater flat prevention but not so lower pressures.
Biggest downside is less tire choices.
I'm trying latex free http://www.truegoo.com. |

I find stans to be less that optimal for the punctures
Slime sucks |

I have run tubeless tires since 2000, they rule! I have not been without a flat here and there, but once you get your air pressure where it suits your riding style and select terrain they are amazing. I have had far fewer flats since switching. Nothing says traction and coosh like 30 psi......... _________________ Keep Em' Turning! |

Ok..........I've got my tubless rims ordered. For the moment, I'll be running tubed tires on them. Anyways, just wanna hear some feedback on what tubeless tires people use. Which ones you've had better luck with against, flats, wear, etc. and which ones you suggest staying away from. Like most of you, the trails I normally ride are rocky, rooty and muddy. Thanx _________________ greg

For hardtailing it where you normally do: rear, 2.2 ~Geax Sturdy
or ~Kenda Kinetic 2.2
Up Front ~2.3 Vertical Pro
or~2.3 Maxxis Ignitor
The Kenda's cant take Sealant! Lots of good front options, but the burly 2.2 rear is the stuff. The high volume takes some of the edge off the bumps. |
