Hey Y'all - do you have a pile of old bike parts that clutter up the garage? Are you looking to make an old bike road worthy? Well you are in luck.
Mark your calendars for the first annual Re-Cycling Bicycle Swap Meet on June 29th at the Elting Library in New Paltz from Noon to 4 PM. The library is at 93 Main Street across from Chase Bank.
Bring your used bikes, bike parts, bike clothes and accessories to sell or swap. Your used parts may be another rider's treasure.
Bring in bike related items starting at 10:00 am. Volunteers will help price and tag all goods. At the end of the sale, pick up your unsold items or cash. 10% of all sales will go to the Fats in the Cats as a fund raiser.
Come out and help the club raise some money, and get rid of stuff you have been tripping over for years. Be there! |

Just a thought but were there any extra jerseys that were produced that we could sell to the public as a fundraiser at the swap meet?
It would server two purposes in raising money and getting the club name out there. |

Cash only sale, no personal checks, correct?
Also, can we clarify the word "swap". |

We'd love to have another volunteer at the swap - thanks Chris. If you can make it there about 10 AM that would be great.
Just a few of the things I know will be for sale at the swap:
* Mtn bike night riding light (never used).
* Road racing wheel set.
* 1950's classic 3-speed bike (with baskets).
* A bunch of new Specialized bike jerseys.
* Fenders
* Mtn bike tires
* Bike racks.
* XT disc brake rotors
* Various and sundry other bike parts.
Check in starts at 10 AM and the swap goes until 4 PM. Be there and bring some stuff to sell! |

I'm going to be selling an old 50's vintage 3-speed (not the Swiss bike) with a story.
I bought the bike from a professor in New Paltz who got it in Europe and rode all through Belgium and Holland (in his 'wild days'), then mailed it back to the states for grad school at Harvard. So it's got some good bike karma to it! And it comes with the origional front and rear baskets that he used instead of panniers back in the early 60's.
It's up for grabs at the swap! |

Yes, it's on the chopping block. I love it, but I really want a fixed gear bike that can use fenders and a rack. |

So dont delay or you may end up watching someone else ride away on 'your' bike. |

Billy at Overlook Bikes in Woodstock donated 8 pairs of mountain bike and road bike shoes (priced from $5 1to $15). And Craig put in 2 Vicious Cycles jerseys ($10 each).
Some things I'm bringing to the swap:
* Thule and Yakama bike racks and cross bars ($10)
* Road bike and mountain bike bars ($5)
* Vintage bike t-shirts ($5)
* Thompson Seat posts ($5)
* Old school stems ($5)
* New Dakine pack ($20)
* Nice set of anodized Road Wheels ($40)
* Night rider head light still in box ($60)
* Cranks ($5)
* New chain rings ($1)
And if that was not enough, a home made chocholate chip cookie is included in every sale!
The sale starts at Noon and goes until 4 PM. Bring your stuff to sell. And your wallet. |

The swap meet this weekend was a great sucess. Many old bikes and bike parts found new homes and many garages were cleaned out. We sold about 2/3rds of all the items brought out!
The club raised money and more importantly many new members signed up. We had several hundred items for sale and dozens of people coming in to buy bikes and bike parts.
We had mountain bikers, road bikers, BMX'ers, street riders, commuters and even some recumbent riders that stopped in.
Many thanks to to the volunteers that helped out - Sue, Kevin, Jill, Jamie, Chris, Doug, Henrik, Cathy and Linda. And thanks to everyone that brought their items out to sell, and to Overlook Mountain Bikes for donating goods.
Look for another swap next year in May (National Bike Month). Nice job everyone!
Kevin's Latest Addtion to his fleet - an early 1950's 3-speed:
Lots of great stuff was for sale.
This cool bike found a new home to someone from NYC.
Happy customers.
Bike man was there.
Bike pimps.
Thanks to the volunteers who made the swap happen. |
