The New Jockey Hill Trail is Complete!

The New Jockey Hill Trail is Complete!

Many thanks to the Jockey Hill Trail Crew who built two miles of new singletrack trail over the span of two weekends (four work days).

For those who are not familiar with the project, it has been in the works since 2010. Fats representatives spent countless hours walking around the property, responding to emails, mapping, and meeting with NYSDEC/OSI officials on site to identify a suitable trail corridor.

At 2:00 in the afternoon on July 13, the crew finished. Three rock quarry ride-throughs, lots of bench cutting, raking, and cutting of downed trees was accomplished. There is even a seasonal 15′ high waterfall to be seen, which is active after heavy rains. (View pictures here and on our Facebook page.)

During the process of planning this work, it was decided that an amendment to the current Bluestone Wild Forest Unit Management Plan was necessary. Fats representatives were once again called upon to present a current “as built” trail map of Jockey Hill in order to effectively plan and manage the area for mountain biking for years to come. This map became a part of the amended UMP, which will guide Fats and NYSDEC officials through the process of improving access and trail for riders.

Over the next few years, you will continue to see changes on the property, with more legal trail available to ride as each season passes. Already, our popular Quilty Trail (a.k.a. Q-man) has been absorbed into the yellow blazed “Wintergreen” Trail.

Thanks to everyone for your support and sweat!
